A historical milestone with a picture to prove it. Today Sava ate his first bit of ice cream with a spoon. That's right. At almost four years of age, he finally seems tempted by the stuff.
When we went to Montana two summers ago, Bob refused to believe that a child might be indifferent to ice cream, so he organized a small ice cream party at that Missoula icon--The Little Dipper--where he believed the sight of everyone eating ice cream, including a friend's daughter almost Sava's age, would finally convince our boy to try. Sava, of course, was allergic to milk, and was not really supposed to eat ice cream, but we knew he was not likely to try it, which is why we agreed to the experiment. He wouldn't even lick it. Cosmo the dog got his doggie cone, but nothing could seduce Sava; he drank water.
He dislikes sweets in general--will rarely take a bite from a cookie or a cake--and ice cream until recently had been no different. Just in the last couple of months he began showing some hesitant interest by licking a few times from my ice cream each time I had some, and today when I saw him doing it (while he was helping me cook dinner) I very casually suggested that he try the spoon. And so he did. And I was stunned. I asked him to hold it, and ran upstairs to get the camera. I doubt he took more than three or four small bites, but it counts.
Since I don't eat dairy because of Raya, it was coconut ice cream, vanilla flavor. Delicious stuff.
