Sava is now a regular at a couple of playgroups. His favorite--read, his parents' favorite--meets Saturdays at the graduate student community center on campus. It has a nice mixture of moms and dads, and most kids are his age or a bit older. So far, his interest in other babies is sporadic at very best. He would notice their hair, nose, or eyes occasionally, and attempt to pull and poke them. He is much more attracted to adults, even though his interaction with them rarely goes beyond climbing on them or using them as pull-up furniture. The second playgroup is one which his mom put together, and it is different in that it has a couple of older siblings who are toddlers. Those are fun to chase around, even though they tend to be mean sometimes and treat the younger babies as toys or objects.
Mom has mixed feelings about taking Sava to playdates, since it allows her to see just how cute he is but also confirms for her that he is a peanut in every way--she's yet to see another baby who is as skinny as Sava and at the same time as incessantly mobile. It seems impossible to imagine that he is ever going to have extra fat on him. The child never stops moving, period. It's a miracle that he manages to conserve enough calories to grow at all.
