Let's see. After a very sketchy morning nap, he seems to have gone past the magic 1.5 hrs this afternoon, so I have time to add a few more milestones of the recent weeks.
-Sava woke up with his first tooth on December 8; he had been restless all night, but nothing awful; when he woke up with a very runny nose, it hit me that maybe this was a sign of teething; sure enough it was; the little toofer had already poked through; the second one on the bottom came about two or three weeks later; we have as yet to see something upstairs, even though it looks like he has a couple of bumps already.
-he now pulls himself up on everything and is desperately trying to walk, even though he is deadly afraid to let go of objects; two days ago he stood by himself for about 5 seconds before I had to catch him
-and now the Biggie: he will NOT eat babyfood; we had a magical two or three weeks during the seventh month when he seemed to take in cereal and other stuff--not enthusiastically, but without fighting it; then Whatever happened, and he decided that he disliked the spoon, as well as anything delivered in a spoon; if I try to spoon-feed him now, he clamps his mouth shut, turns his head, and starts squirming and screaming if I persist; he'll only eat if he is in control--i.e., if he feeds himself; that means a few cheerios here and there, some macaroni, carrots (if he is in the mood; and then they all come out in the poop), egg yolk (sometmes), and other such things; but it is never enough to fill him up and we don't think that the idea that these are foods--to nourish and satisfy hunger--has penetrated his brain at all; he might be amused by food, but he is not hungry for it; so...that means he still drinks mommy milk; and because his weight leveled off around 6-8 months, and he started falling off the charts, I have been pumping since some time in December, and he will only drink breastmilk from bottles, so at least we know how much he is taking in; to boost the calories, we add dry stinky hypoallergenic formula and, recently, baby cereal; we saw a feeding therapist who annoyed us without really helping; she thought that Sava had an issue with the texture of foods and that for whatever reason he is averse to eating mushy food (umm....we know that); she strongly believes that he will not be able to transition to real food unless he starts eating mush first; well, maybe but we hope not; we found stories on the internet of kids who went from nursing/formula-feeding to table foods and, like Sava, hated the stuff from jars; they wanted to feed themselves, just like he did, and eventually, when their motor and oral skills allowed it, they just went to eating table foods; I doubt that our transition will be this easy, since nothing is easy with Sava, but I am hoping that the therapist is wrong about mush being a necessary stage.
