What you talkin' about?

Just in the last three days or so, Sava has entered a new phase of verbal development, in which conversation between ourselves without his participation seems pretty much impossible. As soon as I start talking to Rado, Sava begins asking in a high-pitched urgent voice: "Mommy mommy mommy mommy, what you talkin' about? what you sayin'?" He does the exact same thing when Rado starts talking to me, and his little voice is so strident and so insistent that ignoring him is a near impossibility. Telling him that we are not "talking about" anything because it is impossible to do so while he keeps asking what we are saying does not help one bit; neither does he care when we add that if he only stopped asking and listened to our conversation he would probably be able to figure out what we are discussing. He gives us a serious look, and then says again, a bit more calmly: "What are you talking about?" It is the funniest thing ever except when it is the most annoying thing ever.
