We joined a mom with three kids for another hike in a beautiful park just twenty minutes from where we live. I had gone running there a couple of times--oh, when running was such an under-appreciated luxury--but had not visited it since Sava's arrival. Despite the fact that the trail was at times nerve-rackingly narrow, and I had to keep a constant eye on Sava to make sure that he did not tumble down a precipice, it was a lovely walk. We saw deer as soon as we entered the park, and then Sava got to do what it seems he loves most on these little outings: collect branches and leaves, pretend that he is various vehicles such as bulldozers and street sweepers by pushing a big stick in front of him, explore redwood trees and moss, even throw pebbles in a little creek. We had to make a poop stop at one point (he pees in toilets but insists on a diaper when pooping), right next to a big pile of horse excrement, this being a horse trail, and Sava remarked that "horses don't have to worry about diapers, toilets, and wipes." I agreed.
Although the other children were older--eight, six, and four--Sava enjoyed having them as buddies, even if only to watch their antics. I had to push him in the jogger up a very jagged path for the last fifteen minutes, which provided some serious exercise for this nearly six-month pregnant lady.
I could do this every day, and I suspect that so could Sava. He was singing about fire trucks on the way back.
