As we drove out on our street this morning, Sava pointed to a sign and said: "Does that say "Speed Limit 25," mommy?" Indeed, it did. We've been talking about speed signs, so I am sure he recognized the picture, if not the words, but I am not certain how he figured out the number. He does know 2 and 5, and has heard me say 25 or 35 many times in reference to the speed signs; perhaps he is starting to put 2 and 5 together, so to speak.
This weekend our friend Kevin spent a night with us. In preparation, the evening before Dad and I had discussed how to set up the sleeping arrangements in our small two-bedroom apartment while we were giving Sava his evening bath. Since Sava seemed busy with his own chatter and toys, we talked to each other and assumed that he was oblivious to us. We ran through all possible scenarios of who could sleep where, until we finally decided that Kevin should sleep in our room on the floor in a sleeping bag so Sava and grandma could have their own spaces. Two nights later, somehow the words "sleeping bag" came up in another context, and Sava exclaimed: "Is that what you were talking about the other night?" "What night?" we said. "When we were in the bathroom. You were saying, 'If you sleep in my bed, if I sleep in your bed,'" and then rattled off a couple of the scenarios we had been discussing. It was shocking to hear, because we had not even imagined that he was listening, let alone remembering the conversation.
