Almost four months later...

...Sava is still allergic to milk (& presumably soy), so our lives revolve around the pump. It's hard to imagine what a day might feel like when our activities--sleep, fun, food, those four--do not depend on an upcoming pumping session. The last milk challenge made all of us so miserable for over two weeks--Sava unable to eat and sleep, we unable to sleep or help him eat--that now pumping feels like back to normal. In the meantime, what normal used to mean is no longer in our conscious memory.

Eating in general is still a major chore. Because of his limited diet, Sava gets the same food over and over again. The only thing he eats somewhat consistently--when his tummy is not upset because of dairy--is meat, in particular chicken and sometimes beef. He also loves fruit, though which fruit depends on his mood and on the time of day. Lately, peaches have been a hit and have helped relieve some of the horrible constipation that the dairy challenge caused. Grapes are also a favorite, as was banana, before we gave it up because of the constipation. We like to visit the nearby Whole Foods on weekday afternoons, because they always have samples of most of their fruits. This is my chance to let Sava try new fruits without necessarily spending the money if he does not like it (or if the fruit is just coming into season & is still awfully expensive). That is how he got into cherries and is now learning to like watermelon. With 4.5 teeth and a sixth one trying to push its way, he still can't eat things like apples without some help--and help is not what he ever willingly accepts!
