Curious George for real

The past week has been pretty full. Six days ago Sava woke up with what turned out to be a ruptured eardrum, coming at the end of five days of high fever; we now know why he had been so clingy leading up to the ear event. Thankfully, the antibiotics seem to have done their work, and he feels much better now (no more incessant requests for Thomas or Elmo!), though we continue to worry about his congestion which might wreak similar havoc on his other ear. Even so, he felt well enough on Sunday that we ventured out to the opening of a new bookstore, which featured an apparently well-publicized visit by our favorite book character, Curious George. It was a mad house. There were so many parents and kids in the store that the only way for Sava to catch a glimpse of the giant monkey was by perching on Rado's shoulders as Rado elbowed his way towards the makeshift stage. Insane though it seemed, we decided to brave the crowds and spent thirty minutes in line in the hopes of getting a photo op with George. As may well have (and should have) been expected, by the time we got to the front of the line, Sava no longer wanted to have anything to do with George, and on the brief five-second video I made (the camera batteries died in obvious protest of this outrage), we can see Rado trying to get Sava close to George's lap, while Sava is flailing in the air as though he is being put straight in the mouth of a dinosaur. It's pretty sad and funny.
